Toshiba

Toshiba was founded by the merging of two companies, Tokyo Denki (Tokyo Electric) and Shibaura Seisakusho (Shibaura Engineering Works) in 1939. The new company called Tokyo Shibaura Denki was soon nicknamed Toshiba. It was not until 1978 that the company was officially renamed Toshiba Corporation.
